10 Productive Things to Do When Feeling Un-Productive

The following post is from Prerna of The Mom Writes: 10 Productive Things to Do When Feeling Un-Productive

We’ve all been there. Those times when you just don’t feel like doing anything and yet know that you have to do something. Yeah, there.  When working is the last thing on your mind, but things need to get done.

I’ve been there more than once.

And that is why I have a quick list of 10 ways to productively procrastinate when I just don’t feel ‘productive’:

1. Brainstorm and mindmap. I’ve recently discovered Mindmeister and use it to map out ideas for future eBooks, eCourses, or just a business plan.

2. Catch up on phone calls and text messages. When caught up in the busyness of life, I tend to forego making phone calls to friends or family. When I just don’t feel like doing anything, times like these are a good time to just chit-chat.

3. Go for a walk. And get some much-needed exercise and fresh air. Not surprisingly, when I got back, I felt much better and more focused.

4. Listen to music and meditate. Again, a great way to help recharge and relax.

5. Listen to music and dance. If meditation is not what you’re looking for, just dance the blues away. Really. Works.

6. Make lists. I’m a list-lover,  and when I’m not feeling the productive mojo too much, I make lists of all sorts of things. Room purges, gifts to buy, places to visit, books to read. You get the point, right?

7. Read an eBook or Kindle book. I collect {that’s right, collect!} tons of reading material on my iPad, and times like these are perfect for reaching out for one of them.

8. Speaking of reading, I also use times like these for adding free eBooks to my Kindle. Check out Mandi’s other site if you want some awesome free eBooks to add to your library. I visit every day and browse the free Kindle books section for some great picks.

9. Make a dream board. I’ve recently discovered the joy of visualizing and love putting together dream boards. Whether it is for my ideal home office or just for fun things I’d like to do, I find that creating dream boards juices up my productivity and knocks out the boredom easily.

10. Cook. Bake. Clean. I know, I know. You are bored, and I’m talking about cooking and cleaning. But hear me out. Cooking, baking, and cleaning are all proven de-stressors, and when you do them because you feel like it and not because you have to, they’re great fun too.  Take my word for it and try it once. When you have the smell of fresh bread or yummy casseroles floating out of your kitchen, you’ll feel a lot brighter and better.
