101 Days of Christmas: Annual Ornament Tradition

Annual Ornament Tradition {101 Days of Christmas at lifeyourway.net}

When we were in college, both Sean and I lived at home (it helped that our families lived across the street from each other!), but we had several friends who lived together in a townhouse nearby while they went to school/worked/etc.

We spent a lot of time hanging out there, and one of my favorite memories is the “Charlie Brown” Christmas tree that they set up one year. It was truly the most pathetic Christmas tree I’ve ever seen, but somehow that really did add to its charm.

What stood out to me the most, though, were the variety of ornaments hung on the tree.

Our friend Adam explained that each year his parents had given him a new ornament, creating a collection of ornaments that became his own when he moved out.

That memory has always stuck with me, and it’s become one of my favorite Christmas traditions for our own family.

The best part is really how much our girls look forward to discovering the annual ornament in their stocking and how excited they get about unpacking their personal ornaments each year when we decorate the tree.

It’s important to note that this doesn’t have to be an expensive tradition at all. We’ve given them inexpensive ornaments, homemade ornaments and collectorable ornaments over the years, and each is as treasured as the next simply because of the tradition itself!

What’s your favorite Christmas tradition?
