One of my favorite fall traditions is apple picking with my family. We’re actually supposed to go tomorrow with some friends, but my girls are fighting a virus — they’re not actually sick but seem to be teetering on the edge with sniffly noses and intermittent low-grade fevers — so we’ll have to see.
In the meantime, I’m bookmarking recipes like crazy on Pinterest, and I see lots of homemade applesauce (mixed with homemade pumpkin puree and cinnamon for what our two-year-old refers to as “punkin’ pie”) in our future. I’m also looking forward to serving apple cider cups and apple pies in the apple (which are much simpler than they sound!) as special treats.
Here are the apple recipes on my must-try list, but be sure to share your favorites in the comments as well!
I really can’t get over how adorable and simple these “apple pies…in an apple” are. These are at the top of my list to make once we get our bushel of apples, and even our GFCF toddler can have one without the pie crust on top!

Homemade applesauce is one of my favorite things to make with fresh apples, although I’ve never gotten around to canning it since we go through it so fast. I would love to get my act together enough to stock it for the whole year, but I don’t think that’s going to happen this year. I don’t typically sweeten mine, and while you can make “fancy” applesauce with additional ingredients (sugar, lemon, etc.), it’s really delicious without anything added at all!

I pretty much love any apple dessert (or breakfast) that includes a moist cake/dough/pastry with slightly crunchy cooked apples in the middle, and this cake makes my mouth water just looking at the picture! I’m actually wondering if I could get away with serving it as a special breakfast if I skip the glaze and the ice cream…what do you think?

These baked apple chips would make a fun and healthy snack for the whole family. Wouldn’t they be fun with shapes cut out around the core (hearts, stars, etc.) as well?

I’ve served smoothies in orange peels and grapefruit chunks in grapefruit peels but I never thought to serve apple cider in apple cider cups until I saw this picture. I absolutely love the idea and can’t wait to surprise my girls with a special treat one afternoon!

Here we go again with the moist pastry and slighty crunch apple filling…mmm! These mini apple fritters are adorable, and what’s not to love about little fried bits of dough?

I used to make these apple rings all of the time but had forgotten about them until recently. Although it’s probably not the healthiest dish on the planet, they’re a fun treat that’s worth the splurge every once in a while!

I’ve tried plenty of apple crisp recipes but never tried combining apples and pears into one delicious dessert, and with or without the ice cream, I bet this tastes divine! As an added bonus, you can use this base recipe with a variety of fruits and toppings for the perfect crisp for every season!

Seriously? Apple butter apple pie? That’s an option? Apple butter is on my list to make this month, and I absolutely love it’s creamy goodness, so combining that with the all-American dessert, apple pie, sounds like my kind of dessert!
