EWG's 2013 Guide to Safer Sunscreens and Sun Safety

EWG's 2013 Guide to Safer Sunscreens

In addition to the annual Dirty Dozen & Clean Fifteen produce guide, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) also issues an annual sunscreen guide, and this year’s updated guide is now available!

While the importance of sunscreen is stressed every day and from a variety of sources, there are also underlying dangers in some of the most popular products on the market. In fact, evidence shows that some sunscreens — especially those with Vitamin A (which is many of them!) can actually contribute to skin cancer — and many leave you exposed to cancer-causing UVA rays while protecting your skin from the UVB rays that cause sunburn.

This is something I feel pretty passionate about — both the importance of sun exposure for our bodies and the danger of conventional sunscreens, and you can read more about our family’s research and approach to sunscreen here. Then, head to EWG.com for their top sunscreen recommendations (and a ton of information about current research!).
