It’s been a few years since I shared photos of our Christmas decorations, so I thought it would be a fun addition to this year’s 101 Days of Christmas series.
Unfortunately, my meager photography skills seem to have been further depleted by Jackson’s birth, and I am not at all happy with these pictures. But with the holidays and a newborn in the house, I decided to call ’em “good enough” and share them anyway!
With that in mind, c’mon inside:
My husband has been dreaming of a 12′ Christmas tree since we built our home six years ago, and this year we decided it was time. As per our family tradition, we started setting it up on Halloween, and it just kept getting taller and taller with each section he added to the top.
It’s really ridiculously tall, but it’s also thinner than our old tree, so it fits perfectly in this corner of our family room.
I’m a morning bird anyway, but now my favorite part of each day is waking up in the early morning, turning on the tree lights and cuddling with Jackson by their soft glow!
Along the back wall, we have a faux mantle and white-washed wall, where we display our village and hang our stockings. Oh, how I love this room during the holidays — it’s almost magical! Even Jackson will just stare and stare at the lights on the tree or the red stockings hung on the white wall.
We actually tried the village in a few different places this year, thinking it might be too crowded in the family room, but in the end we decided the mantle was just too perfect not to use it!
We’ve never been so prepared for Christmas, and one of the bonuses of having all of the gifts purchased and wrapped this early is how pretty they look under the tree. My parents also shipped their gifts for us, my sister and each other up as well since they’ll be flying up from Florida for Christmas, so our tree is feeling very full!
This year I realized that even though our home feels very festive, we really don’t have a lot of knick-knacks, just a few things tucked into a corner here and there — like this pretty Santa.
We moved the piano to an interior stair wall earlier in the year, and Sean decided to decorate it with garland and lights this year, which I absolutely love. It also holds our advent wreath and a few other small items, like our Cubebot, which gets a pretty red scarf during the holidays!
One picture I didn’t get was the stair railing, which is wrapped with garland and tied with bows, which really finishes off our holiday decor perfectly. We always hang our Christmas cards along the railing, and I can’t wait until they start arriving this year.
Directly across from the piano is our faux fireplace (not putting a real one in is my biggest regret about this house!), which holds my Willow Tree nativity, our sparkle box and a wooden Rudolf my grandfather made.
I collected the nativity set over several years as gifts from various family members, and it may be my favorite part of our Christmas decor. It’s just really simple and lovely.
And finally, on the kitchen counter we display my collection of snowman cookie jars, which my mom and Sean add to each year. I just need a few more to go straight across the counter, and they make me smile throughout the entire season!
