If you’re just joining us, be sure to start at the beginning of the 31 Days to Your Goal series!
We’ve talked a lot this month about ways to stay motivated as you work toward your goal — everything from sharing your goal with others to creating an inspiration board, and while motivation is an important part of reaching your goals, there’s another equally important ingredient as well: discipline
It’s one thing to set a goal and to be excited about working toward it, but the day will come when your motivation wanes….and then what?
That’s where discipline comes in. You — and I’m speaking to myself here as well — have to choose to do what needs to be done even when you don’t feel like it. For some of us, that’s as simple as adding it to the to-do list or calendar, where our own desire to “check things off” will force us to complete the task no matter what. For others, it requires a conscious decision to do this thing today, now, rather than putting it off till you feel like it.
For me, discipline is much harder than motivation. I’m pretty good about keeping myself motivated. But when I’m tired or that motivation fails me? Well, then you’re likely to find me curled up in with a book on the couch rather than whatever it is I should be doing instead!
Forget all the motivational tips and tricks; it takes discipline to reach your goal.
How can you practice discipline as you work toward your goal today?
