The thing about making goals is that we’ll never get any closer to the finish line if we don’t make each of them a priority. That’s why the goals we make because we think we should make them are so hard to keep and why most resolutions fail.
However, when we make a goal that we’re excited about or convinced is the best for us — whether it’s something fun like weekly date nights, something hard like completing the Insanity workout program or something big like launching a new business — it’s much easier to make the time for it because it truly is a priority for us.
At the end of the day, the way we spend our time is a reflection of our true priorities, not the ones we list on paper but the ones we hold in our hearts.
We have to choose to make pursuing our goals a priority, and that means carving out time in our schedule to make it happen.
If you’re having trouble finding the time in your schedule, here are a few ideas:
- Get up 15 or 30 minutes earlier.
- Give up evening TV time.
- Swap childcare with a friend or neighbor to give each of you a child-free morning or afternoon.
- Institute an afternoon quiet time for kids who no longer nap.
- Look for ways to streamline or delegate chores.
- Practice saying no.
- Do it first thing, before the day gets in the way.
- Eliminate time wasters.
If you truly want to achieve your goal, you must make it a priority. There’s no other way to make it happen!
