One of the things I love most about the iPad is its musical capabilities. It has great sound even through the built-in speakers, and there are hundreds of musical apps available for everybody from amateurs to professional musicians. Don’t believe me? Have you seen NorthPoint’s iPhone Band video from last Christmas? Amazing!
Although my dad is a talented musician who plays both the trumpet and, more recently, the steel pan (I was excited to get my own steel pan in #8 below!), the talent seemed to skip my generation…but the appreciation of good music didn’t. My hope is to pass down that appreciation to my own girls, whether they take after their mom or their Gramps, by exposing them to a variety of instruments, styles and musical theories.
The iPad and iPhone make that incredibly easy, with tons of free or inexpensive apps that let kids (ahem, and their parents) try out different instruments, learn to read music, combine sounds and learn more.
