While the holidays bring with them scarves and mittens and wishes for a white Christmas for our family, I know it’s not cold everywhere in December (the shame!). In fact, we actually spent two Christmases in St. George, Utah — a high plains desert in the southwestern corner of the state — after we got married, and there we enjoyed temperatures of 60 degrees for most of the winter.
Hot chocolate and wassail will always be my holiday drinks of choice — even in hotter climates — but this peppermint milkshake is a great alternative for those of you who still want to sip the flavors of Christmas without the added heat of a steaming cup of hot cocoa!
It’s simple to throw together in a blender, making it the perfect drink choice as you decorate the tree or snuggle up to watch a holiday movie.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups vanilla ice cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1 3/4 teaspoons peppermint extract
- whipped cream
- crushed candy canes
Directions:
Combine ice cream, milk and peppermint in a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy.
Top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes and serve immediately.
Makes 2 milkshakes.
