101 Days of Christmas: Snowman Cake Pops

101 Days of Christmas: Snowman Cake Pops

snowman cake pops

I knew I wanted to make upside down snowmen cake pops as part of this series, but I wasn’t quite sure what they would look like, so my mom and I started experimenting. Our first batch looked a bit like zombie snowmen, but this second batch that she and my grandmother made turned out so much cuter!

Cake pops are all the rage, and these sweet treats are not only adorable, but yummy as well. And because anything is better on a stick, they’re sure to be a hit with kids!

Supplies:

  • box cake mix (we recommend white or yellow cake)
  • 3/4 container frosting
  • white candy melts
  • coconut
  • black licorice
  • black licorice shoe lace
  • an orange (really just the peel)
  • mini M&Ms
  • toothpicks
  • long lollipop sticks

Directions:

To make basic cake pops, prepare a box of cake mix according to the directions on the box. Once it’s completely cool, crumble the cake in a bowl and mix with the frosting. Use a melon baller to form cake balls.

Melt the candy melts according to the directions on the package.

Dip lollipop sticks in melted candy and then carefully insert into the first ball, pushing it far enough onto the stick that you can add a second cake ball underneath. Slide the second ball on and carefully dip both into the melted candy coating. Let the excess drip off and set the cake pop on a flat surface. You’ll want to work quickly to decorate these while the candy is still wet.

First, sprinkle with coconut. Then use tiny pieces of the black licorice laces for the eyes and longer strips for the mouth. Add a triangle of orange peel for the carrot nose. Stick two mini M&Ms on the front as buttons and use two toothpicks for the arms. Finally, slide one piece of licorice horizontally onto the top of the snowman and a second shorter one vertically, to form his hat.

Let dry and serve!
