In theory, I love the idea of decorating for the season, updating little touches throughout my home as the seasons change. However, in reality, I don’t do this as much as I would like to.
With that in mind, one of my favorite parts of spring and summer is that decorating for the season is made so simple just by adding fresh flowers to your decor:
- Set a vase — or jar! — of fresh cut flowers on your kitchen table, your breakfast bar, a mantle or a shelf. I prefer the long-lasting varieties, such as carnations, but another way to minimize the expense is to grow a variety of flowers in your garden so that you can cut fresh ones whenever you want.
- Use flowers in planters outside your front door or at the corners of your front walk to add a splash of color and beauty to your entry way.
- Don’t reserve the potted plants for outside, though! If you don’t have a green thumb, start with some easy-to-care-for varieties such as impatiens or geraniums. Put them in a pretty pot and set them in an area where they’ll get sufficient sunlight while brightening up your home!
- Although this one won’t last very long, add an elegant centerpiece to your table by floating candles and flowers (with the stems cut off) in a shallow bowl or tray.
What other ways do you incorporate fresh flowers in your home? What is your favorite flower?
