Weekend Reading: July 6, 2013

Watching the Fireworks

After a few too many stuck-in-traffic-with-overtired-and-screaming-kids experiences, we tend to take a low-key approach to the 4th of July! This year we had pizza and ice cream and then snuggled up to watch The Fantastic Mr. Fox (which may just be the strangest children’s movie ever!) while we waited for the fireworks special to start. Then the girls made up their beds on mattresses on the floor for an hour of music and fireworks. The two middles fell asleep about halfway through, but the 8 year old and 3 year old were pretty keyed up and lasted until the very last firework before nodding off for the night.

It’s not a traditional Independence Day celebration, but hopefully it’ll be a memory they treasure nonetheless!

Here are some of my favorite posts from this week. As always, check out what I’m reading to see the other posts that make me stop and think. You’ll find new posts all week long!

I also really enjoyed this thorough look at the Paula Deen scandal from Kristen at Rage Against the Minivan. She put a lot of what I’d been thinking into words.

Have a great weekend!
