Weekend Reading: June 9, 2012

The following post is from Mandi, the founder and publisher of Life Your Way:

This little girl has really grown up in the last few weeks. She’s asking to do school with the big girls, looking forward to her first year of kindergarten and surprising me with her insights and questions at every turn!

In our house, you can get your ears pierced when you turn four, but for some reason we haven’t had much luck getting her to the mall to get hers done…until now (almost 9 months later). When we stopped at a mall last weekend for Sean to get fitted for a tux rental for a wedding this fall and walked right past a Piercing Pagoda, she screeched, “Can I get my ears pierced? You said I could get my ears pierced!” So we did.

She’s always been our tough girl, enduring many needle pricks as a baby with ITP, so she sat perfectly still, holding mama’s hands, while they pierced both ears at once. She didn’t cry, but proudly showed off her new earrings and stuck the “I got my ears pierced!” sticker to her bed frame.

If you haven’t yet entered to win in the Grateful Giveaways Summer Fun Event, there’s still a few days left. We’ve got 9 great prizes and tons of chances to win, so be sure to enter today!

Here are some of my favorite posts from this week. As always, check out what I’m reading to see the other posts that make me stop and think. You’ll find new posts all week long!

I’m Fine, Thanks

Adam Baker from Man vs. Debt is working with a small crew on the production of a documentary called I’m Fine, Thanks, about living a counter-cultural life and resisting complacency. The filming is done and it’s now in post-production, but they’re trying to raise $100,000 to cover those expenses.

I wasn’t asked to post about this film, but after seeing the trailer, I’m really excited to see the final project, so I wanted to share how you can be part of it too! Head over to Kickstarter and donate as little as $5 toward the project, and you’ll receive a complimentary digital download when the final film is released (receive a physical DVD + digital download with a donation of $25 or more). They’re more than halfway to their goal already, but they still need your help!
