Weekend Reading: May 26, 2012

hershey park

Last week the big girls and I headed to my mom’s so she and my sister could administer their standardized tests (WV law requires a non-parent), and to celebrate the end of the school year, we headed to Hershey Park on Thursday with the whole family!

I absolutely love the variety of “little kid” rides at Hershey Park. The three older girls were able to ride pretty much anything they wanted to ride, and the baby had quite a few choices too. Because it’s so early in the season, there were no crowds or lines on those rides, and they rode several of them half a dozen time, including the Frog Hopper, which sent them into fits of giggles and screams every time.

Of course, we had purchased our tickets before I really began researching the reality of child slave labor in the chocolate process, and as much as we loved it, I’m not sure we’ll go back since Hershey is, sadly, one such company that turns a blind eye to the source of their cocoa beans. More on that coming soon, but I really need to gather my thoughts and figure out how to make my “fair-trade chocolate only” commitment a reality in our life first…it’s harder than I thought.

In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend with family and friends. Take a minute to stop and remember those who have died serving our country so that we can enjoy all of its incredible blessings!

Here are some of my favorite posts from this week. As always, check out what I’m reading to see the other posts that make me stop and think. You’ll find new posts all week long!
