It’s February — the time of year many moms let feelings of failure creep into their soul.
Most, if not all, of those pesky New Years resolutions are distant memories, the topic of jokes and regretful comments that “They weren’t really a good idea anyway.”
May I challenge you this February, not to quit, but to evaluate and adjust?
Why Their Methods Don’t Work
Do you know why the Flylady’s cleaning method and Jillian Michaels’ exercise method didn’t work for you?
Because it was THEIR method. Not yours.
When we decide to make a change in our lives we rarely choose to reinvent the wheel. Instead, we find a tried and true method and work to implement it into our homes and lives.
But the Flylady doesn’t have your kids, your house, or your schedule.
Jillian Michaels doesn’t have that old tennis injury on her left shoulder.
We MUST go into any new venture EXPECTING kinks, and unless you designed the system, it probably won’t fit you perfectly. So it is vital that your expectations are realistic going in.
Know that you’ll need to make alterations.
Half the battle of sticking to a New Year’s resolution is discipline. The other half is tweaking the method to ENABLE your discipline.
As moms, we have little eyes watching our every move or lack thereof. So whether you’re rocking your resolutions, hanging on by a very small thread, or you’ve already forgotten what they were; let’s decide today to continue working to make positive changes in our lives.
A Change In The Making
Who you are today isn’t who you were meant to be. We are meant to be ever-changing. And although “our comfort would prefer for us to be numb and avoid the impending birth of who we we’re born to become” (ref.) we have the choice every day to choose change over comfort.
So dust off those resolutions, goals, and plans. Figure out what worked and what didn’t. Make adjustments and make the method your own.
We are our children’s inspiration. Let’s give them something to aspire to!
What New Year’s resolutions do you need to revive or adjust?
