Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow in the Life of Amanda White

I’m excited to introduce a new series we’ll be doing at Life Your Way, called “Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow in the Life of…” Each week I’ll post an interview with someone as they share how their past has shaped who they are today as well as who they hope to be in the future.
We’re starting with the Life Your Way contributors, but I’d love to include readers as well. If you’d like to participate, just send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll send you a questionnaire!

Today’s interview is with Amanda White of and Impress Your Kids:

1. Looking back on your childhood, what events do you think shaped who you are today?

One of the main events of my childhood was church — my mom was a children’s pastor so we did summer camp, Christmas plays, Performing Arts camps, missions trips, dramas, puppet shows and more.

The creativity involved gave me creative-lenses to see my kids and how to help them grow. But more importantly I learned how to serve others in those environments — something I do every day as a mom!

2. Were you always so motherly?

When I was in college I read a book about purpose. It was an interactive book that helped direct you to your ONE purpose. I was shocked that the one desire that floated to the top was to be a good mother.  I didn’t become a mother for 7 more years but now I know there is nothing more I’d rather be doing than raising my kids!

3. How would you describe yourself today?

Growing. I didn’t know the most growth in my life would come when I was in my 30’s, but it has.

4. What do you most love about your life?

I love everything I do! I love love love being a mom. I love staying at home with my kids. I love writing on my blogs. I love the interaction and the community I’ve found. {Wait. I just thought of one thing I don’t love: housework.} OK. But that’s it. Everything else? I love.

5. What would other people be surprised to know about you?

Not much. I think I’ve covered about everything on blogs except my home address.

6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?

In 5 years I’ll be 38. And I’ll have a 10 year old and a 7 year old. Well, I guess I’ll be in the corner crying! Kidding. I think I’ll be right here in 5 years — raising my kids in a new season, blogging about it and hopefully encouraging others and following God along the way.

And then in 10 years? When I’m 43 with a 15 and 12 year old? Actually, I look forward to those days. I have fond memories of hanging with my mom and having adventures as a teenager. I can’t wait to grow with my kids.

But maybe one day, when they are older and I’m home alone I’ll have a really purposeful, clean, and updated-daily blog. Or maybe I’ll blog full-time for a non-profit like Compassion or World Vision. And my husband and I can travel the world blogging about their efforts to protect, help and encourage kids and families.

Of course, my long-term retiree goal is to live in Orlando and be a VIP Tour Guide at Disney World. *shrugs*

7. What legacy do you hope to leave behind?

As much as I dream that my blogs will live beyond me and change someone’s life, I really just want my kids to succeed. I want them to be my legacy. I want them to pass on the love and life my husband and I have cultivated in our home to their own children. I want to see God’s hand active in their lives. And I want my children to continue showing God’s love to others.

Amanda is a stay-at-home mom of two who blogs at and Impress Your Kids. In her former life, Amanda was a Children’s Pastor — overseeing, organizing and developing ministry for kids in nursery through middle school, but now that she is a mom, her “skills” are used up on her kids!
