10 of the Most Popular Types of Christmas Decorations

Christmas isn’t far away, and it’s time to think about how you’ll decorate your home. Christmas decorations are a matter of personal choice. You might want to get some understated ones, or you may want to light up the neighborhood instead.

Let’s discuss some of the most popular types of Christmas decorations to think about as this festive occasion approaches.

Christmas Lights

Lights on the outside of your home let people know this jolly season has arrived. Permanent Christmas lights cost less than you might think, so they’re at least worth considering. You can also get the ones you put up for the holiday and take them down afterward.

Inflatable Santas

Inflatable characters having to do with the holiday are also proven winners, especially with kids. You might go with an inflatable Santa. He will look positively regal on your lawn. You may also go with some inflatable Wise Men instead.

Non-Inflatable Santas

You can also get a non-inflatable Santa if you’d prefer that. You can set him up on the roof, along with his sleigh and reindeer. You can easily store him in the garage, basement, or attic when the season ends.

Nativity Scenes

Some families like to emphasize the religious aspect of the holiday more. A nativity scene on your lawn featuring baby Jesus, Mary, the Wise Men, lambs, and other animals might appeal to you.

Outside Light Shows

Instead of installing static Christmas lights, you can also get a projector for your lawn that throws a dazzling light show against the outside of your house. These are fun because the lights constantly move around with frenetic motion that’s sure to captivate. You can get a projector that plays Christmas carols too if you like.

A Wreath for Your Door

A wreath for your front door is a little more understated, but it still captures the spirit of the season quite nicely. You can have the wreath all by itself if you like, or perhaps that will be just part of your overall theme or decorative strategy.

Stockings

Hanging stockings on your mantle above the fireplace sends the message to your family that good times are coming. You can heighten the sense of anticipation by filling them with toys and candy a few days before the big night arrives.

Gingerbread Houses

A gingerbread house is one of the more fun decorations you can have with your kids because it’s also a sweet treat and an activity. You can all have a great time putting it together, and then you can eat it on Christmas day.

Popcorn Strings

Popcorn strings, like gingerbread houses, will keep the family busy and entertained for a while. You can enlist the children to help string them, and then you can eat them instead of throwing them away when cleanup time comes.

The Christmas Tree and Ornaments

The Christmas tree and ornaments are an absolute must-have decorations. You can collect ornaments throughout your life and look at them and smile when you think of bygone times.
