Beginner Face Painting Kits for Starting a New Business

Starting a face painting business is a bittersweet experience. You’ll get an adrenaline rush picking your business premises, painting kits, and marketing strategy. However, fear of failure is to be expected. Fortunately, when you get the right Beginner Face Painting Kits, you are likely to impress your clients and increase the likelihood of your business becoming a success.

Running a face painting business is more than having the skill needed to paint a nice face. You need to have the right face painting kits, business acumen, and understanding of how to positively impact the public in a way that will make you hireable for future events.

Types of face paint

Water-activated face paints are preferred for face painting because they dry quickly and wash off easily. Parents will certainly give their children a nod when they excitedly seek your services if the paint comes off easily.

You also need to consider the paint’s base ingredients because they influence the paint’s consistency.

a) Paraffin wax base

This base melts at temperatures above 37 degrees celsius but remains solid at room temperature.

Face paints with paraffin wax dry quickly, don’t bleed, and are awesome for designs that require intricate details, such as sharp edges. This paint also leaves a glossy finish.

b) Glycerine base

Glycerine tends to be more stable than paraffin wax. The paint’s consistency doesn’t change much when exposed to high temperatures. Unfortunately, face paints with a glycerin base smudge easily and take longer to dry.

c) Alcohol and castor oil base

When mixed, alcohol and castor oil give face paint a smooth, matte finish. Face paints with this base are more durable because they resist friction, sweat, and water for extended periods.

d) Acacia Senegal Gum base

This is a naturally occurring gum made up of hardened sap from different trees. Face paints with this base are thin, leave a glossy finish, and do not rub off easily. Unfortunately, this base is not heat resistant.

Brushes

Face painting brushes come in different shapes and sizes. Your choice will depend on the type of paint cakes you buy.

Are you buying palettes, singular colors, or split cakes?

For example, you may need a thin brush when working with palettes or when using one color in a split cake. If you are looking for one-stroke rainbow color combinations, a thicker brush is ideal.

Brushes of different sizes and shapes will give you greater flexibility when painting different designs. Flat, round, angled, and petal brushes are necessary additions to your kit.

Since you will be dipping the brush in water a lot, brushes with a wooden handle will likely start cracking over time. Brushes with an acrylic handle tend to outlast those with wooden handles.

Sponges

Sponges for face painting come in various textures and densities, Half-circle, petal, and finger-dauber sponges are great additions to your starter kit.

Cosmetic glitter

You never know when you will need to make your designs sparkle, so it doesn’t hurt to add some glitter to your cart.

Mist spray bottle

The spray bottle will come in handy when activating the face paint without running the risk of accidentally pouring too much water into the paint.

Stencils

If you are new to face painting and are not confident with your hands, you can use stencils. Get stencils with different themes so that you can have different designs at hand.

These are the essential items in face painting kits for beginners. However, explore the various items in a face painting store to ensure you are well equipped for your face painting business.
