You love your current apartment in Ontario, but maintenance issues, noisy neighbors, and high utility costs have made you decide to move to a new location. Check out these Muskoka apartments for rent and select an apartment that will suit your unique lifestyle.

When picking an apartment, go for a location that will save you the cost of commuting. A beautiful neighbourhood is a plus but also ensure that you check the smaller details in the apartment such as the age of the home and the appliances.

Here are six things to consider when renting out your next apartment.

• Natural Lighting

The main reason why you should always view an apartment before moving in is to check the lighting. Lighting is very important especially if you live with your family and children. Choose an apartment that is well lit to avoid switching on the lights the whole day. This will save you on the lighting costs and keep your home environmentally friendly.

• How Do You Pay for The Utilities?

Before you sign any rental contract, make sure you understand how the utilities are paid in the rental apartment. The lease should be inclusive of the water bills and the electricity bills to eliminate the hustle of paying multiple bills every month. If the lease does not include the utilities, ask your potential landlord for an estimate of what to expect at the end of the month.

• Does The Apartment Have a Washer and A Dryer?

We all hate carrying laundry to the shared laundromat every weekend.  This is why you should consider moving to an apartment that has a washer and a dryer. Check if the apartment has an inbuilt washer and dryer inside the apartment. An apartment unit that has an inbuilt washer and dryer is the best option as you can wash and dry your laundry from the comfort of your home.

• Check The Heating and Cooling System

Ask your landlord about the cooling system. An apartment that allows you to control the heating and cooling of your apartment will keep you comfortable in all seasons. This is because buildings that offer centralised control may not offer the right option for you during the extreme weather seasons like summer or winter.

If the apartment does not have a cooling system but all the other amenities are in good working condition, you can consider bringing in your air conditioner.

• Check The Plumbing

Check the apartment’s plumbing system before you sign the lease. Moving into a house that has a shower that is barely functioning will become your daily frustration.  A quick way to check the plumbing systems is to turn on the sink and let the water run. If you notice a smell coming from the sink or if the water takes too long to drain, run.

• Check The Power Outlets and The Appliances

A good apartment should have several power outlets in every room. This makes it easier for you to plug your devices without having to connect ugly power strips everywhere. When house hunting, bring a phone charger and test the outlets to see if they work.  Check the appliances. Outdated appliances will not only need frequent repairs but will also drive up your bills. Ask for an upgrade of appliances before you move in, or talk to the landlord about negotiating your rates.
