Keeping Our Hair Healthy Post-Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be an exciting and challenging time for your body. We all experience it differently, but one thing often experienced during and after pregnancy is changes in hair growth. It’s common for a woman to lose more hair than usual during pregnancy or experience increased hair growth! But how do we keep our hair healthy post-pregnancy? Here are some tips on maintaining your luscious locks.

Eat Well & Take Supplements

Ensuring we are getting the nutrients necessary for healthy hair growth is essential. Eating a balanced diet with plenty of protein, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids will help keep your hair looking its best. Additionally, supplements designed to promote healthy hair growth can assist in nourishing and strengthening our hair follicles. Some helpful accessories include biotin, zinc, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins A and B. Talk to your doctor before starting any supplement regimen so they can advise you on which ones may be beneficial. The right supplements can even help with our milk production as well!

Minimize Stress

Stress can significantly impact our health, and it’s no different regarding our hair. Reducing stress levels through exercise, mindfulness, or other relaxation techniques can help reduce shedding and breakage and promote healthier hair growth.

Avoid Harsh Hair Treatments

It’s common practice to color or style our hair with heat treatments such as curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers. Unfortunately, these treatments can damage our hair if done too frequently or without proper protection from heat-protectant products like sprays or serums that act as a barrier between the heat source and your hair strands. Also, ensure you don’t apply too much product, as this can cause buildup on the scalp leading to discomfort or irritation.

Keep Your Scalp Clean & Moisturized

A clean scalp free of dirt and oils is vital to keeping your strands healthy and strong! Ensure you’re regularly washing with sulfate-free shampoos that won’t strip away essential oils needed by the scalp and hair follicles while still removing any excess buildup from products like gels or mousses been used previously on the scalp/hair area. It is just as important, however, not to overwash! Doing so will strip away too many essential oils leaving the scalp dry and prone to breakage! Be sure to use conditioner often enough so that the scalp stays moisturized and not too often so that it becomes weighed down by product buildup!

Taking care of ourselves post-pregnancy is a priority for all our new moms—especially when caring for our hair! Eating a balanced diet rich in proteins, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids while avoiding harsh chemical treatments such as dyeing or bleaching will help keep your locks healthy after pregnancy! Additionally, ensuring you shampoo regularly but don’t overwash, plus using conditioner often enough, should leave you feeling confident about your postpartum mane! With these tips in mind, postpartum moms everywhere should be able to maintain their luscious locks without sacrificing their health (or sanity!). Good luck, moms!
