Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, and this is one of my favorite ways to give each holiday season:
We’re blessed to have pediatricians whom we love, and since a scary experience with our third daughter several years ago, letting them know how much we appreciate them has been an important part of our holiday celebration. We fill tins and baskets with goodies – one for our main pediatrician and one for the rest of the office to share – add a handwritten note and family picture and all head in together to drop them off.
You could also deliver cookies to the local police and fire departments, your church staff or various other community organizations just as a way to say thank you!
While it ends up taking twice as long by the time we unbuckle and rebuckle everybody into their seats, my favorite part of this tradition is letting the girls be the ones to actually hand over the gift and say thank you, so we try to save it for a day when we’re not in too much of a hurry.
It’s tempting to overthink this tradition, worrying about the variety of cookies in your tin or stressing about how much you should take and whether you need to include XYZ on your list. Rather than giving into that temptation, just do what works for you — even if it just means a dozen cookies in a tin! In this case, it really is the thought that counts.
