Five Steps to a Saner Summer Schedule as a Work-at-Home Mom

The following post is from Prerna of The Mom Writes:

As someone who’s managing two work-from-home businesses while juggling home, family, and other random obligations and duties, I know for a fact, that the summer months are probably my busiest.

However, I also know that with a little bit of planning and preparation, I can not only swing it with ease but also, end up doing so much more both at home and at work.

Here are my 5 steps to a saner summer schedule as a work-at-home mom and a very special offer for you at the end:

1. Choose Your Big Rocks

Begin by choosing the big rocks for your summer months. What are the most important projects that you’d like to get done this summer? Is it creating a new line of products? Or offering new services? Choose just one or maybe, two big rocks so that you can focus on them and them alone.

2. Create a No-Do List

Yes, I am a big fan of the no-do list. What activities can you stop doing this summer to save yourself some time and stress? Is it watching re-runs? Or saying ‘yes’ to every playdate request that comes your way?  Pick 3 things that you will just NOT do this summer and watch your time free up, instantly.

3. Use Technology to Tame Time

We shouldn’t be slaves to technology. Uh-huh.

We need to use technology to our advantage and instead save time and effort. By using simple tools like the Cozi Family Calendar, your iCal, or Google calendar, you can set up the summer schedule for everyone and have everyone synced and coordinated. Use Plan to Eat to plan a month’s worth of meals, complete with recipes and grocery lists. Similarly, for work, you can use tools like Hootsuite to schedule social media updates each, and then, just check in every day to reply and re-tweet or re-post.

4. Use What Works

Remember, at the end of the day, your life as a work-at-home mom is yours alone. Find what works for you and then, work it. If using tech freaks you out, use pen and paper. If planning for a month overwhelms you, aim for a week or even, a couple of days. If waking up early is not your thing, try something else. Your productivity will be at a peak when you’re doing what works best for you and your family. You’ll be happier and so will they.
