Blissdom ’11 is just five days away, and the excitement is building in the blogosphere! I love this conference for the setting, the atmosphere and the people, and I’m looking forward to heading back for the third time.
Earlier this week, Tsh talked about what to wear, and Tara and I shared our packing tips at Deal Seeking Mom. You should have also gotten your Prep for Bliss package, including tons of goodies from Freschetta, Con Agra and Intel as well as a planner that I helped design to help you get the most out of the conference!
Today, I want to share just a few more last-minute tips:
1. Make Firm Plans
If there is someone you’re dying to chat with, send them an email to see if you can eat lunch together or meet between sessions. Once the conference starts, it will be busy and time will move incredibly fast, so try to pin things down ahead of time.
2. Be Flexible
That said, it’s important to be flexible. You’ll meet new people — bloggers and brands — and you want to have the flexibility to be able to sit down and chat with them as well.
One of my favorite parts of last year’s conference was a conversation we had in the hall where 8-10 of us just sat down and shared our thoughts, struggles and opportunities. There were experienced bloggers and newbies in the group, and I think we all walked away feeling like we’d learned a ton.
3. No Time to Blog
I know it sounds silly to say you won’t have time to blog at a blogging conference, and I’m sure you could make time if you need to. But the conference is about learning, growing and connecting face-to-face, so prepare your posts ahead of time and spend your building relationships doing that instead of hiding behind your screen!
4. Sleep Well Before You Come
Look, I get it. Most of us are moms. We have schedules to coordinate, childcare to arrange, bags to pack and a dozen other obligations to meet before we can even think about leaving. But make an effort to get a full night’s sleep before heading to Blissdom because you’re probably not going to get enough during the conference.
5. Pack Carefully
A few more packing tips for you:
- Bring plenty of healthy snacks for in between meals. You’ll feel better and have more energy.
- Leave room in your bag for swag. I know it’s tempting to try to get away with a carry-on or small bag, both for convenience and to save money if your airline charges a baggage fee, but you want to make sure you’ll have room for the swag you’ll receive at the conference, of which there will be plenty!
