I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I want my kids to remember from their childhood. Is it the trips to Disney World? The once-in-a-blue-moon field trips? The momentous occassions?
More than any single moment or special event, I want them to remember their child as magical, with joy and love and wonder infused into the everyday moments. Rather than remembering individual days on their own, I want them to be filled with a warm, fuzzy feeling when they think of it as a whole, even if no single moment stands out.
Our life is chaotic and messy, and I’m human, so I yell too often and snap too much, but I hope when they look back, they are overwhelmed by the good things.
This is why I love traditions, the things that we repeat again and again and again. Those traditions don’t have to be elaborate; they’re just simple celebrations of who we are that are woven into our family fabric.
For two years now I’ve been trying to emulate this special breakfast tradition from Anne at Modern Mrs. Darcy, but I just can’t seem to pull it off. I never remember to buy paper plates, and on the occasion that I do, I forget to use them! But we do have an abundance of colorful napkins leftover from various parties over the years, and I’m doing better about pulling those out to go with our morning “tea time” or a special breakfast or dessert.
I love the idea of setting Saturday morning breakfasts apart as a time to slow down, eat breakfast together, and celebrate family. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, and I’m reminding myself that I don’t have to pull it off by myself. My girls love to help cook, and setting a pretty table feels like a party in and of itself to them!
A Saturday morning celebration can be as simple as smoothies in quilted mason jars with glass straws, fresh picked flowers in a purple vase, or a special platter piled high with food. It’s about sitting down as a family to hit pause on the week and just enjoy one another!
Having quality kitchen tools makes preparing special breakfasts easier and more fun, and we had so much fun creating this yummy smoothie with the Braun PureMix Blender!
- 1 mango
- 1 avocado
- 1 orange
- 1 frozen banana
- 2 cups frozen sliced peaches
- 1 cup vanilla yogurt
Combine all ingredients in the PureMix blender and add water to cover. Puree, using the pulse option and adding more liquid as needed.
