candlelight vigil

This is our very favorite Easter tradition! At 3pm on Good Friday, the time the Bible says that Jesus breathed his last breath, we turn out all the lights (which mostly means the interior lights like the bathroom and laundry room, if we’re using those at the time). As it begins to get dark later that evening, we light candles instead of turning lights back on. We’ll continue to use candles through sunrise tomorrow morning, when we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection!

It’s such a simple way to remember Jesus’ death and sacrifice — one that our girls really seem to get — and it makes us more conscious of what we’re celebrating throughout the weekend and that there wouldn’t be a celebration on Easter morning without the sacrifice on Good Friday.

Today we’re planning to make resurrection cookies and prepare our resurrection rolls for Easter morning, and if I can get my act together (which may be doubtful after a week of battling illness!), I think we might make some candles as well and talk about Jesus as “the light of the world”!

In other news, the 2nd Annual Simplify Your Family Life Sale is coming soon: On April 16th, we’ll launch a four-day sale with more than 35 ebooks and digital products from top bloggers available for just $29, a more than 90% savings.
