It's a...boy!

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you probably already know that yesterday was our “big” mid-pregnancy ultrasound. While the main purpose of this ultrasound is to check on the baby and make sure everything is forming correctly, we were beyond excited to get a sneak peek at the baby’s gender too. Beforehand, our youngest daughter and I both guessed boy while Sean and the rest of the girls thought for sure it was another girl. As soon as the ultrasound tech moved in for the “money shot,” it was very obvious that we are expecting our second son, Lucas Isaiah.

Really, I would have been happy either way, but we’re all really excited that Jackson will have a little brother. Of course, it also makes our bedroom situation a lot simpler, and all of the baby stuff I have left is for a boy, so that’s a relief too! We had been talking about names for the entire pregnancy and were pretty set on both our boy and girl names, and it’s been fun to adjust to calling him Lucas rather than “the baby.”

We also discovered at the ultrasound that this little guy is super active, but the reason I haven’t been feeling his movements very regularly is because I have an anterior placenta (on the front of my uterus). I’m looking forward to feeling more movements as the placenta continues to move higher, because that is by far my favorite part of pregnancy.

  1. Congrats on another boy! So great that your son gets a little brother and that you already have gender appropriate stuff! We have our ultrasound in a couple of weeks, though we’ve already had one and are pretty sure we are expecting another girl. I love getting to the part when we can change from “baby” to calling him or her by name too. 🙂

  2. Oh, I’m excited for you – and that Jackson gets a little brother! It also makes the practical elements of room sharing and clothes so much easier, like you said. I’ll hope you feel the movements soon, because that was always my favorite part, too!

  3. Yeah! How sweet that Jackson will get a little brother and so easy that you still have some little boy clothes ready to go.

  4. This will sound a little off topic but bear with me. Congratulations! This should be hard for me to say – I just had my second miscarriage last week (two in a row after a healthy pregnancy with my now two year old.) But it’s not. I think the first or second post I read of yours was about being afraid that this next pregnancy will also end in miscarriage. I really appreciated the honesty of your post as I was in the first 6-7 weeks of this last pregnancy and fearing a repeat miscarriage. Your post helped me realize how common miscarriages and even repeat miscarriages are (even though according to statistics they should be very rare) and that hopeful expectation, worry, grief, joy, and love are all part of the package. Because of your honesty and the fact that you “get it” I feel like I can honestly say “Congratulations!” and also, thank you.
