Weekend Reading: March 24, 2012

March is a funny time to find your homeschooling groove, but that’s what has happened for us this month! It’s always felt like we were pulling teeth to get school done — not because the girls didn’t want to do it, but because we were rushed or distracted or starting too late or feeling overwhelmed or whatever.

We’ve made some changes to our routine in the last few weeks that we’re all enjoying. It started with our move to the bedroom for school time, which works surprisingly well since there are fewer distractions. Then we started doing reading & math early in the morning. The girls work independently while I work, but I’m still able to answer questions for them. Getting those basics out of the way first thing gives us more flexibility for the other things and also lets us work in shorter chunks rather than all at once, which has been good for all of us.

We’ll be schooling through the summer, and I am sure we’ll still need to make adjustments and address struggles, but it feels good to have a pretty good routine in place finally!

Here are some of my favorite posts from this week. As always, check out what I’m reading to see the other posts that make me stop and think. You’ll find new posts all week long!
