Weekend Reading: May 12, 2012

source: Heidi Scovel

I will be sharing more thoughts about our time with Susan Wise Bauer in a homeschooling series that I’ll be doing in June, but I had to share the proof that we really did get to meet and spend time with her last weekend!

The entire weekend was amazing and refreshing and thought-provoking. Heidi, Stephanie, Tsh, Jessica, Sarah (not pictured) and I spent the entire time talking — about blogging, family, homeschooling and more. And we spent quite a bit of time with Susan getting her thoughts on everything from pursuing her own passion as a writer to when to change math curricula.

Beforehand, I wondered if leaving our family vacation a couple days early for this opportunity was the right thing to do; thankfully, I left knowing it absolutely had been the right decision!

Here are some of my favorite posts from this week. As always, check out what I’m reading to see the other posts that make me stop and think. You’ll find new posts all week long!

This week in the SentrySafe Spring Cleaning Blogger Challenge, I shared my tips for organizing your junk drawer! Head on over and like SentrySafe to see those tips. Leave me a comment for a chance to win a SentrySafe for your own family. If my post receives the most comments, they’ll also make a $150 donation to Children’s Miracle Network, a charity that we support because of the way it has touched our family.

Motherhood {A Heart for Tanzania}

This week, a group of bloggers traveled to Tanzania with Compassion, including my friend Amy from Resourceful Mommy. The group’s reflections on their time there have been honest, heart-wrenching and real. Here are some of my favorites:

  • {What I Found at the Market.} | Gussy Sews
  • Miracles So Great | Minivans Are Hot

Food {Little Steps, Big Payoffs}

  • Let’s Save Some Money: The Eat from the Freezer and Pantry Challenge! | Keeper of the Home
  • Transitioning To a Whole Foods Diet | Retro Momma, Vintage Wife

Have a great weekend!
