10 Must-Have Accessories for Your Sewing Room

Are you a mom? Do you want to sew something nice and cute for your little ones or gift your loved ones, something that’s dear to your heart? We all love getting presents, but gifts that are just made for you, feel so special because you know how much extra care, thought, and love they had for you when making this gift. If you like sewing or know someone who loves sewing things, there are many sewing accessories out there that will make anybody’s sewing experience more colorful and fun, also you can visit Digitizing Made Easy, where you will find more information about this.

Below is a list of the ten must-have accessories for your sewing room.

1. Sewing table

Every sewing room needs a sewing table, period. This might come off as a no-brainer at first—how would you sew? Do you want to sew something nice and cute for your little ones or gift your loved ones, something that’s dear to your heart? We all love getting presents, but gifts that are just made for you feel so special because you know how much extra care, thought, and love they had for you when making this gift. If you like sewing or know someone who loves sew cute things, there are many sewing accessories out there that will make anybody’s sewing experience more colorful and fun.

Sew without a table? Here’s the thing: You don’t just need any table. You need a proper sewing table. They’re laid out for sewing, and often have a measuring tape built right into the table. They also come with handy drawers and compartments for storing all the odds and ends required for sewing.

Sewing tables can make you feel like you’ve got an extra pair of hands. Everything is right where you need it.

2. Storage baskets

Sewing requires a lot of stuff. The right sewing baskets can be great for organizing. Especially fabric scraps.

The secret to storage baskets is that they can easily fit the feel of any sewing room. They blend right in. There are pastel baskets, burlap baskets, kitsch baskets, and everything in between.

3. Art and signage

A sewing room should be inspiring. When you step into it, you need to feel a strong urge to create. It’s the same with musical instruments. It’s important to have an instrument that, when you look at it, you can’t help but pick it up and practice.

With sewing rooms, they need art. Use art that stirs something in you. Art can inspire creativity whenever you run into obstacles along the way.

4. A mood board

As long as we’re talking inspiration, mood boards can be a great way to awaken your creativity. There’s something just so satisfying that comes from seeing the connections between a bunch of things that inspire you. A mood board can be a reflection of your innermost self.

It’s important that it’s physical. A simple cork board can do the trick. Add to it slowly, only the pieces with the most “oomph.” Change it up from time to time, taking off and replacing pieces that are no longer “you.” Your mood board should grow and change alongside you as a sewer and person.

5. A sewing machine cover

The thing about so many potential sewing accessories is this:

Many can be made with your sewing machine!

That includes a sewing machine cover. It’s important to cover your sewing machine in some way when it’s not in use. Dust can get in there and gum up the works over time.

A custom case is something you can throw a lot of personality into. Really make it your own. And if you’re new to sewing, they couldn’t make for a better first project.

6. Sewing accessories case

The machine isn’t the only item that needs a case. Accessories do too! This is another thing you can whip up on your own. Bobbins, needles, thread—it all needs a home.

7. Funky pincushions

Since we have a theme going here, let’s talk about pincushions. They’re another thing you can make on your own, and another thing you can get creative with. You’re going to need one no matter what, so why not give it a little pizzazz?

I’ve personally got a tomato-shaped pincushion I made years ago. I’ve seen pigs and pumpkins and other round objects. But you don’t have to stop at round. I’ve seen pincushions shaped like dragonflies. The sky is the limit!

8. A good chair

If you’re going to be spending a lot of time in your sewing room, you’re probably going to be spending a lot of time sitting. And if that’s the case, then searching for the best sewing chair is absolutely essential.

Sitting in a bad chair for long periods of time can affect everything from your posture to your heart health. And even if you’ve got a great chair with back support, make sure to take breaks and stretch or walk around every 20-30 minutes.

9. Plants

Plants are a great addition to any and every room. Not just sewing rooms. They breathe literal life and fresh oxygen into space. A nice vibrant plant or two can go a long way in livening things up.

I always count on flowers for an extra pop of smell and color. Or keep it spikey with a low-maintenance cactus. Succulents can be a good middle ground, as they look nice and aren’t too high maintenance.

10. A good lamp

Most sewing machines today come with their own lights built-in. These make it easier to see the details of your work but aren’t powerful enough to light up a whole room. Nor should they be.

A nice, good lamp will light up your space and ease your eyes. Like most everything on this list, lamps are easily customizable and come in many different colors, shapes, sizes, and styles. However you choose to decorate your sewing room, it’s a good rule of thumb to have a cohesive style. Whether that’s a color scheme or theme, or some other unifying factor, and again, make it a room you feel inspired in, just by walking through the door.

Final Thoughts

Moms are busy people. That’s why we made sure all of these accessories are not cumbersome and something they will really enjoy having around and keep her smiling all day long. Added bonus: this year’s Mother’s Day is still far off, and most of these accessories make great Mother’s Day gifts too.
